Welcome to The Click Report, for issue #2 I thought I would cover a topic that affects my customers and agency on a daily basis. The mistake of choosing the wrong website platform for your local business!

Did you come here just for the answer? Well here it is…

The number 1 reason why you should choose WordPress for your local business website is to save money!! The allure of choosing one of these DIY platforms to save money upfront is one of the biggest traps in web design. I can promise you this, if you want to be a market leader in your area, you will end up paying to move your website over to WordPress.

Here Is The Proof That WordPress Wins In Local Web Design

17K Monthly Vistors - 170K Monthly Visitors In just Over One Year

So to back up my bs as they say, take a look at the screenshot above. That is a local SEO customer of mine, doing 170,000 monthly website visitors. I will put a challenge out there.. Can anyone reading this blog find me a DIY website platform such as Wix or Squarespace doing that type of website traffic? I would love to see it!

There will be a few of you reading this, who say “but I get most of my traffic from some social media platforms” and if that’s the case.. Then maybe you can get away with a DIY website platform. But this still comes with downsides such as contact forms being unreliable, your website not representing your brand very well, and the biggest one your website might as well be in a foreign language in Google’s eyes! So let’s take a look at my 3 biggest reasons why you should choose WordPress.

Save Your Business Money

When you’re just starting your business, it is all too easy to choose the route that saves you money in the short term. Cash flow in business can be tight, and let’s face it, the economy is tough right now.

So many business owners will choose platforms like Wix or Squarespace, and give building their own website a go. While this can work for the brands who want to stay as a small business, and not drive any traffic from Google, it will not work for brands who want to grow online.

Google the search term – “Wix to WordPress migration service” and you will understand how popular this service is. Why is that? If these DIY website builders are that good, how come business owners now want to pay to change to WordPress?

The answer is pretty simple, no one can find their website! And when they do, it feels like they are on a website from the 1980’s. So save yourself money in the long run and choose WordPress.

Get Found In Search Engines

While you may look at DIY websites, and think these don’t look so bad I think I can get away with using that! With your frugal British hands gripping your wallet firmly. This would be a mistake!

While they make look fairly pretty, this would only be half of the story. Google doesn’t have a set of eyeballs to look at your website and judge it fairly. It simply sends out something called a crawl spider, which crawls every page of your website and reports back to Google.

With DIY platforms, when the spider gets back to the head office, it might as well be speaking a foreign language. If Google can’t understand your website, it won’t rank it. And if your website doesn’t rank well, it won’t get found. Do yourself a favour, and choose WordPress!

Your Website Grows With Your Business

So, you chose a DIY platform, but over the last few years your business has grown significantly. You drove traffic to your website from social platforms, and you have created a buzz in your local area. You start reaching out to web design agencies, and the response you get isn’t one you’re exactly excited about.

“Sorry but we don’t work with Wix websites, or if we do we have to charge more given the lack of flexibility”

You have invested so much time into your website, which is money! So what do you do now? Keep struggling with your DIY website or hire a professional to switch it to WordPress.

My advice here would be to always bite the bullet. Make the change now, the problem will only grow as your business scales.

If this isn’t you and you’re just starting out… think about where you want to take your business. Remember scalability is important and choose WordPress!

I hope you got value from reading this, and more importantly I hope I saved your business money! Whether you agree, disagree, or just have some questions regarding the above.. I would love to hear your comments and thoughts down below.
